An enduring fascination with the natural world is evident in most of my works whilst paying homage to traditional craftsmanship, my cultural background as well as my current living situation.
Based in Central Victoria I am perfectly placed to explore the tension that exists between nature and the built environment. My works, although large scale, do often invoke a sense of familiarity and a kind of retreat from the outside world. Materials used, although durable, are fabricated with emphasis on weightlessness and transparency. Most of my works are created with mild steel, a structural versatile material with infinite possibilities. Depending on space and desired outcomes, materials are left in its natural state and allowed to patinate.
Designs for my works are created by taking the history, people as well as the current and future use of a space into consideration.
I take the time and engage with place and people to create future works that add to the experience of a space.
Previous engagement with public art has given me the tools to successfully collaborate with all stakeholders in delivering well received outcomes.
I have shown my work in solo exhibitions at Icon Museum of Art, McClealland Sculpture Park, Montsalvat in Eltham and Qdos in Lorne. I was shortlisted for The Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award, The McClelland Survey and Award, The Deakin University Contemporary Small Sculpture Award and aRtECYCLE Incinerator Art Award just to name a few. I have created public art commissions for the Catholic University in Melbourne, The City of Port Philip, the City of Ballarat and Bendigo, Windham Vale and Park and Wildlife in Tasmania. Public Talks and workshops are a regular feature in my busy schedule.
